Updated Information for Consumers Regarding the MEGA Life Fine

Dear MEGA Life Insurance Customers:

Are you entitled to a refund for health insurance premiums? Yes if you bought an individual (not business) health insurance policy from MEGA Life between 2004 and 2007 (even if it was just for a short period). The exact amount you will be receiving will be determined by MEGA Life subject to my approval.

MEGA Life has until May 2 to notify the Bureau of Insurance of how they will determine the amount of refund. The company must provide a detailed report to me identifying consumers who bought individual health insurance from January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2007 and stating the amount owed (refund plus interest) to each person.

If you are insured with MEGA Life now (2008), your rates may change also. As part of our agreement with MEGA, we required the insurer to file new rates for 2008. The Bureau will post updates on its web site at www.maine.gov/insurance.
